Apples

The Apples task allows students to demonstrate their money calculation skills. Students will calculate the cost of a weight of apples, determine the smallest bill they can use to pay for them, and calculate the change they will be given back. Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator.  The resources required for this task are advertisement cards, a calculator, and $5, $10, and $20 notes.

Bag of Beans

The Bag of Beans task allows students to demonstrate their understanding of probability using colored beans. Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator. Balls

The Balls task allows students to demonstrate their ability to estimate weights. Students will hold four different balls and then estimate their weights Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator. The resources required for this task are four balls (foam ball, tennis ball, petanque ball, and a cricket ball), and a recording booklet.

Bank Account

The Bank Account task allows students to demonstrate their ability to relate money transactions to a graph. Students will be shown a bar graph representing the amount of money in a bank account over six days. They will explain what is going on in terms of balances, deposits, and withdrawals. Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator. The resources required for this task are a graph and a ruler.

Bean Estimates

The Bean Estimates task allows students to demonstrate their ability to estimate by estimating how many beans will fit on three trays of different sizes. Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator.  The resources required for this task are three trays (red, blue, and green), twenty beans, and a recording book.

Bear Mixes

In the Bear Mixes task, students will be told how many bears they have and information about the colors of the bears. They will use this information to determine how many of each color bears they have. This task involves addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, fractions, and percentages. Students will complete this task working in stations. The resources required for this task are twenty yellow bears and twenty blue bears.

This task is a part of the Algebra, Statistics, and Logic task series from 1997 by NEMP.

Better Buy

The Better Buy task allows students to demonstrate their under standing of cost per unit and identify the best value. Students will determine which box of pebbles is the best value based on cost and weight. Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator.  The resources required for this task are100g, 50g, and 20g boxes of pebbles.
