3rd Grade Standards 4 and 8 Assessment

The 3rd Grade Standards 4 and 8 Assessment is two tasks that use A New Chance for Live by Glenn Greenberg. In Task 1, students will write to explain the meaning of the words “population” and “extinct” as they relate to the content of the article. In Task 2, students will determine how a particular sentence in the passage connects to a prior section entitled “Population Problem.” They will write to explain the connection between the sentence and the prior passage.

This assessment includes a rubric.

12 Bears

The 12 Bears task allows students to demonstrate their understanding of fractions using counting bears. Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator. The resources required for this task are a packet of twelve counting bears and recording book.

In this task students will explain how they would figure out a multiplication problem using other multiplication facts. Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator. A Bit of a Lemon

The A Bit of a Lemon task allows students to demonstrate their ability to evaluate design. Students will watch a short video of someone using four different types of lemon squeezers and think about and answer questions about the things that make a lemon squeezer work well. Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator. The resources required for this task are a video on a laptop computer and four pictures.
