Pair Trees

The Pair Trees task allows students to demonstrate their ability to work collaboratively to make decisions on the choice of artworks suited to a particular purpose. Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator. The resources required for this task are sets of five pictures of trees, four copies of decision-making cards, and a recording sheet.

This task is a part of the Responding to Art task series from 2007. This task is classified as a trend task by NEMP. Trend tasks are used to examine trends in student performance: whether they have improved, stayed constant or declined over the four-year period since the previous assessments.

The Paper Folds task allows students to demonstrate their understanding of spatial relationships. Students will be shown a sheet of paper that has been folded twice and hole punched once. They will then draw where they think the holes will be when they unfold the paper. Students will complete this task working in stations. The resource required for this task is a folded, stapled paper with a hole punch.

The Party Time task allows students to demonstrate their ability to add costs and calculate change.  Students will calculate the cost of the items they need to purchase and determine the amount of change they will be given if they pay with a $5 and $10 bill. Students will complete this task working in stations. The resources required for this task are priced packets of candles, balloons, sweet bags, and invitations, and a calculator.
