Fast Food

The Fast Food task allows students to demonstrate their ability to identify and depict components in sequence. Students will watch a short video and use it to create a diagram. Students will complete this task working in stations. The resources required for this task are a video recording on laptop computer, an instruction card, and a word chart

The Fishing Game task allows students to demonstrate their ability to investigate, apply, and evaluate design. Students will look at a children's toy and explain how it works. Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator. The resources required for this task are two fishing toy games (one dismantled and one in working order).

In the Flag task, students will make a flag and then discuss how they could make it stronger.  Students will complete this task working in stations. The resources required for this task are a stick, a piece of material, scissors, cellotape, a stapler, drawing pins, a glue stick, string, and a response sheet.

Food for Tramping

The Food for Tramping task allows students to demonstrate their ability to evaluate decisions, strategies, outcomes, and consequences. Students will decide which food items are good to take hiking or tramping and which are not. They will then describe their reasons. Students will complete this task working in stations. The resource required for this task is a workbook.

The Form Fill task allows students to demonstrate their ability to follow directions and computer skills.  Students will complete this task working in stations. The resources required for this task are a Macintosh Powerbook 5300CS laptop computer with program Hypercard® Player, headphones, a mouse, the Hypercard® document Mac Moves, and the Hypercard® document Form Fill.

Gift Soap

In the Gift Soap task, students will be designing boxes for packaging four soaps together for presents. Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator. The resources required for this task are four round cakes of soap, scissors, a ruler, blue-tack, A3 white cardboard, and a response sheet.

Global Art: A Sense of Caring

The purpose of the Global Art: A Sense of Caring task is to support youth to exchange digital photos/artwork and writing on the theme of caring. Students will write a story or a poem on his/her ideas of caring. They will then create an artwork according to the story and design a class Service Learning project that demonstrates caring for others and take action to benefit the community and show how much they care about.

Green Sheep

In the Green Sheep task, students are going to think up the good points, the bad points, and interesting points about an idea. Students will complete this task working in teams. The resources required for this task are a video showing colored sheep moving around, a photograph showing colored sheep, two prompt sheets with discussion ideas, A3 answer sheet, and marker pens.

This task is a part of the Evaluating Design and Design Ideas from 1996 by NEMP.
