A Bit of a Lemon
The A Bit of a Lemon task allows students to demonstrate their ability to evaluate design. Students will watch a short video of someone using four different types of lemon squeezers and think about and answer questions about the things that make a lemon squeezer work well. Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator. The resources required for this task are a video on a laptop computer and four pictures.
This task is a part of the Technological Capabilities task series from 2008. This task is classified as a trend task by NEMP. Trend tasks are used to examine trends in student performance: whether they have improved, stayed constant or declined over the four-year period since the previous assessments.

An Enterprising Idea
The An Enterprising Idea unit includes an introduction, the learning focus, 4 teaching and learning activities, assessment criteria, and resources.
Unit description from source: In An enterprising idea students develop a brochure or website which provides potential entrepreneurs with advice about starting a small business. Through this project, students develop an understanding of enterprise attributes and employability skills required to run a small business. As part of a team, students research, collect, organize and analyze information related to the establishment of a small-scale business project. They plan activities, manage resources (time, people and finances) and use information and communications technology to record and monitor team progress and to prepare a brochure or website. Students also reflect on how they worked as part of a team and how they contributed to the successful management of their project.

The Bags task allows students to demonstrate their ability to evaluate decisions, strategies, outcomes, and consequences. Students will look at a pictures showing four different types of school bags. They will then choose which one is best for carrying all their school things, describe their reasons, and describe why the other bags were not good choices for them. Students will complete this task working in stations. The resources required for this task are four pictures.
