Digital Citizenship

In the Digital Citizenship task, students will learn about Digital Citizenship and develop responsible on line behaviors through focused awareness raising activities. The project aims at making students aware of their responsibility while working online. Students will understand the term ‘Digital Citizenship’ and what it means in their context. They will learn Digital etiquettes, make conscious efforts to practice them and spread them amongst their friends and family. They will become aware of e-safety by learning about common web threats such as computer viruses (spyware, malware, adware, phishing, & pharming) and web issues such as copy right laws, cyber bullying, and plagiarism.

Global Art: A Sense of Caring

The purpose of the Global Art: A Sense of Caring task is to support youth to exchange digital photos/artwork and writing on the theme of caring. Students will write a story or a poem on his/her ideas of caring. They will then create an artwork according to the story and design a class Service Learning project that demonstrates caring for others and take action to benefit the community and show how much they care about.

In the News

The In the News unit includes an introduction, the learning focus, 7 teaching and learning activities, assessment criteria, and resources.

Unit description from source: In In the news students undertake a research activity on an issue in the local community and report to the class using a multimedia slide-show presentation. Students develop an action plan to address the issue and write an article which could be published appropriately.

Students use multimedia software to compose, record and revise their report. Students identify photographs and sound to use in their slide shows and enhance the presentation. During the research they use strategies such as brainstorming, planning, questioning, note making, action planning, composing and revising, and they refine their editing skills through improving their own texts. Students learn how context, purpose and audience shape and influence written texts. They set personal goals and evaluate their own learning and social interactions throughout the unit.

My Hero Project

In the My Hero Project task, students will use MY HERO, an interdisciplinary, online, interactive Web site that celebrates the best of humanity through essays, artwork, audio, drama, and short films. Students will publish essays and submit multimedia online about their heroes. The project seeks to promote cultural awareness, activism and understanding through global storytelling that honors the heroes in our families, the community and the world.

One Day in the Life

In the One Day in the Life task, students will write about, photograph, and discuss their daily lives. Students will exchange messages and images describing days in their lives with students around the world, and then make cross-cultural comparisons. Students may document aspects of a typical day (like visiting the market or going to school) or they may document special days (like vacations, birthdays, celebrations, or holidays.)

Unit description from source: Students will listen to short texts about tools and explore how tools work, what tools are, what they are used for, and how they developed over time. Following an investigation of simple tools used in the classroom, home and workplace, students design and construct their own tool. They develop skills in working with others, and write texts describing different tools. Students are introduced to the relationship between work and technology and develop an understanding of what work is and tools that are used for different jobs.
