8th Grade Common Core Assessment

The 8th Grade Common Core Assessment includes an introduction and three tasks. In the introduction, students will watch two videos, "Notebook: Kids and Sports" and "Sports: How Much Is Too Much?", and take notes. In Task 1, students will read an article and respond to questions. In Task 2, students will read another article and respond to questions. In Task 3, students will use the information from the videos and articles to write an argument essay.

This assessment includes a rubric and an alternative article.

Calligraphic Arts

The Calligraphic Arts task is designed to engage students to explore the art of Calligraphy, learn its history, and learn techniques. Students will select or create short text focusing peace, love, tolerance, friendship in the form of poems, slogans, phrase, words, select sayings from Sufis or scholars, and use different medium including software to produce calligraphic pieces and share their completed projects in the interactive forum and a web gallery. Likewise students will get an opportunity to appreciate and comment on the pieces Calligraphic art designed by peers from participating countries.

Digital Citizenship

In the Digital Citizenship task, students will learn about Digital Citizenship and develop responsible on line behaviors through focused awareness raising activities. The project aims at making students aware of their responsibility while working online. Students will understand the term ‘Digital Citizenship’ and what it means in their context. They will learn Digital etiquettes, make conscious efforts to practice them and spread them amongst their friends and family. They will become aware of e-safety by learning about common web threats such as computer viruses (spyware, malware, adware, phishing, & pharming) and web issues such as copy right laws, cyber bullying, and plagiarism.

Eighth Grade Performance Assessment

The Eighth Grade Performance Assessment includes two tasks and uses a "Checkers" speech by Richard Nixon. In Task 1, students write an essay about how Nixon convinces them that men like him, who are not rich, should be able to run for office. They will also evaluate the relevance and strength of Nixon's evidence in his argument. In Task 2, students will explain the historical or symbolic meanings of a phrase in the context of the speech. 

This assessment includes a rubric.
