Tea Time

The Tea Time task allows students to observe an example of condensation and explain what happened. Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator. Resources required for this task include a transparent cup, a saucer, an electric jug, water (boiling), and a paper towel.

Time

The Time task allows students to investigate planetary motion and time. Students will answer three questions about the amount of time, in terms of hour, day, week, month, and year, that it takes the moon, Earth, and sun to either orbit or rotate. Students will complete this task working in stations. 

This task is a part of the Planet Earth and Beyond task series from 2007. This task is classified as a trend task by NEMP. Trend tasks are used to examine trends in student performance: whether they have improved, stayed constant or declined over the four-year period since the previous assessments.

Torches

The Torches task allows students to investigate electricity and the arrangement of batteries. Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator.  Resources required for this task include a flashlight with bulb fitted and two batteries outside torch.

Traveling Trucks

The Traveling Trucks task allows students to sort magnetic and non-magnetic objects based on prior experience and practical investigation and try to generalize their understanding. Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator. Resources required for this task include a toy truck, a magnet, and a bag of objects.

Truck Track

The Truck Track task allows students to plan, carry out and report results for an experiment involving a toy truck launched down a ramp with varying slope. Students will then extrapolate and interpret their results. Students will complete this task working in teams.  Resources required for this task include a toy truck, a track, a cloth, five corks (one hidden), one meter folding ruler, and an instruction card.

The Vege Peelings task allows students to evaluate and justify different approaches to organic waste disposal.  Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator.  Resources required for this task include a video showing four ways to dispose of vegetable peelings and four photos.

Water Mix

The Water Mix task allows students to use a thermometer to record water temperatures and mix hot and cold water to achieve a specified temperature range. Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator.  Resources required for this task include a thermometer, three glasses, cold water, hot water (around 50–55C), and note paper.

Way Out There

The Way Out There task allows students to learn about the Earth, moon, and comets in the solar system. Students will look at a picture taken of Earth from outer space, a comet seen in the night sky, and the moon on different nights. They will answer a question about each picture. Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator. Resources required for this task include three pictures.

This task is a part of the Planet Earth and Beyond World task series by NEMP from 2007.

Weather

The Weather task allows students to arrange cards showing different activities, months, temperatures, and observations about the seasons into a chart. Students will complete this task working in teams. Resources required for this task include five sets of four cards with words and pictures.
