Planting Seeds

In the Planting Seeds task students will watch a short video and then design an experiment to find out if the amount of water the seeds get makes a difference to how well they grow. The students will be presented with the idea of a fair test before they design their experiment. Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator. The resource required for this task is a video (1 minute long) showing plants growing, empty pots, a choice of planting mixes, choice of seeds, and a jug of water.

Plants Experiment

The Plants Experiment task allows students to explore the growth requirements for plants. Students will begin by making a list of things that help plants to survive and grow. Next, they will design their own experiment to find out if plants do or don't need sunlight to stay healthy. 

Students will complete this task working in teams. Resources required for this task are a photo of plants, team instructions, a "working together" guide, and answer sheets.

Pop Off

The Pop Off task allows students to predict, observe, and explain the results of a chemical reaction through an experiment. During this experiment students will answer six questions. Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator. Resources required for this task include two film canisters, two lids (one with a hole), paper towels, two Alka-Seltzer tablets, two pairs of safety goggles, a jug of water, and a tote tray.

Possums and Rabbits

The Possums and Rabbits task focuses on habitats and adaptation. Students will view a picture of a possum and a rabbit and think about the similarities and differences between the animals, where each animal lives, and how it lives. This task includes seven questions to ask the students. Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator. Resources required for this task are four pictures.
