Unit description from source:  In An enterprising idea students develop a brochure or website which provides potential entrepreneurs with advice about starting a small business. Through this project, students develop an understanding of enterprise attributes and employability skills required to run a small business. As part of a team, students research, collect, organize and analyze information related to the establishment of a small-scale business project. They plan activities, manage resources (time, people and finances) and use information and communications technology to record and monitor team progress and to prepare a brochure or website. Students also reflect on how they worked as part of a team and how they contributed to the successful management of their project.

Channel Deepening

The Channel Deepening unit includes an introduction, the learning focus, 5 teaching and learning activities, assessment criteria, and resources.

Unit description from source:  In Channel deepening students learn about the points of view of various stakeholders/interest groups about the controversial issue of the deepening of shipping channels in Port Phillip Bay. As part of a team, they research one stakeholder’s point of view and prepare a presentation for a small group comprising students who have each researched a different stakeholder's view.

After considering all perspectives, they prepare a final report which explains outcomes associated with intervention in a natural system and expresses a personal view. They also reflect on how they worked in the team and how their opinions may have changed during the unit.

In Style

Unit description from source: In In style students prepare and present a contemporary style music performance. Student instrumentalists focus on preparing for a performance. Students who are not instrumentalists participate in the design and production aspect of the performance. Students work in groups to research a particular genre of music and to find advice on writing lyrics. They then compose their own original song and prepare for performing their piece to the class. Students undertake regular reflective activities in relation to team work.

Unit description from source:  In Zines, students discuss, investigate and evaluate popular print and online media and publish their own work. Building on their interests, students develop skills in researching, gathering information, and writing and presenting different kinds of texts and images through the publishing process. Students use information and communications technology, including the Internet, for researching and for publishing their own work online or in ‘hard copy’ publications.
