Eighth Grade Performance Assessment

The Eighth Grade Performance Assessment includes two tasks and uses a "Checkers" speech by Richard Nixon. In Task 1, students write an essay about how Nixon convinces them that men like him, who are not rich, should be able to run for office. They will also evaluate the relevance and strength of Nixon's evidence in his argument. In Task 2, students will explain the historical or symbolic meanings of a phrase in the context of the speech. 

This assessment includes a rubric.
