Posting Parcels

The Posting Parcels task allows students to demonstrate their ability to measure weights and read a table. Students will weight packages and determine how much it would cost to send them to their destinations using a post table. Students will complete this task working in stations. The resources required for this task are three parcels, scales, a New Zealand Post table, and an answer booklet.

Powders

The Powders task allows students to investigate properties of chemicals. Students will examine six powders and design a chart to show at least three properties of each powder. Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator. Resources required for this task include a blue pen, a teaspoon of powders A, B, C, D, E, F (in sample cups labelled A, B, C, D, E, F;), an instruction card, a jug of water, a red pen, two pairs of tweezers, two hand lenses, a ruler, twelve popsicle sticks, six sample cups, two eye droppers, a team answer sheet, six teaspoons, and twelve sheets A5 black paper.

This assessment gauges students’ ability to source, contextualize, and corroborate a document.  Students must consider how the contextual information about John Defrees's pamphlet on Grant's presidency affects its reliability as historical evidence. Then, students must identify other information that would help them further evaluate the reliability of the pamphlet.

Print Making Process

The Print Making Process task allows students to demonstrate their understanding of and their ability to explain the processes and procedures of different print making techniques. Students will complete this task working in teams. The resources required for this task are an activity card of summarizing instructions and a set of randomly numbered photographs showing steps in four different print making processes.
