Girls and Boys

The Girls and Boys task allows students to demonstrate their ability to solve number problems using physical objects. Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator. The resources required for this task are two cue cards, five tens rods, fifteen ones cubes, and a recording book.

Hedgehog

The Hedgehog task allows students to demonstrate their understanding of rotation and angles. Students will follow directions to turn a hedgehog clockwise, anti-clockwise, and by degrees to the left and right. Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator. The resources required for this task are a garden picture with metal washer in the middle, model hedgehog to fit washer, and a recording book.

How Much Change?

The How Much Change? task allows students to demonstrate their ability to calculate change. Students are told the price of something and the amount of money they have and have to calculate their left over change. Students will complete this task working independently. The How Much Could It Hold? task allows students to demonstrate their ability to estimate capacity using typical household items. Students will complete this task working in stations. The resources required for this task are four containers (milk bottle, yogurt pottle, juice packet, medicine container) and an answer booklet.

How Much?

The How Much? task allows students to demonstrate their ability to multiply and divide with money. Students will be told how much one item costs and will determine how much multiple items will cost. Reversely, they will also be told how much multiple items cost and will determine how much one costs.  Students will complete this task working independently. There are no resources required for this task.

Jack's Cows

The Jack's cows task allows students to analyze a task demonstrate their ability to add multiple numbers. Students will read a comic strip about a farmer, identify what the farmer wants them to do, and complete the task.  Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator. The resources required for this task are a comic strip card, a calculator, and a recording book.

Jars and Marbles

The Jars and Marbles task allows students to demonstrate their measurement sense and their ability to estimate measuring capacity. Students will be given a container of marbles and will estimate to where the marbles would fill other jars of varying shapes and sizes. Then they will estimate how many film canisters they would need to contain all the marbles. Students will complete this task working in stations. The resources required for this task are a jar filled with marbles, a film canister, three jars, and an answer booklet.

The Jelly task allows students to demonstrate their ability to measure and calculate lengths and volumes. Students will complete this task working in stations. Students will measure the dimensions of a jello box and calculate the volume. Then they will apply their findings to determine the dimensions and volume of a crate of ten jello boxes. The resources required for this task are a jello box, a ruler, a calculator, and an answer booklet.
