Kowhaiwhai

The Kowhaiwhai task allows students to demonstrate their ability to assess symmetry. Students will identify the line of symmetry in a picture and put pieces of patterns together so that they fit with two lines of symmetry. Students will complete this task working in stations. The resources required for this task are four pattern pieces, a glue stick, a ruler, and a red pencil.

This task is a part of the Geometry task series from 2005. This task is classified as a trend task by NEMP. Trend tasks are used to examine trends in student performance: whether they have improved, stayed constant or declined over the four-year period since the previous assessments.

Ladder Activities

The Ladder Activities task allows students to demonstrate their body control skills. Students will complete this task in open space. The resources required for this task are a video recording on laptop computer, a fabric and plastic ladder, and four bibs.

This task is a part of the Movement Concepts and Motor Skills task series from 2002. This task is classified as a trend task by NEMP. Trend tasks are used to examine trends in student performance: whether they have improved, stayed constant or declined over the four-year period since the previous assessments.

The resources required for this task are set of twelve photographic reproductions of landscape paintings by six artists. This task should be completed in thirty minutes.

The Landshape task allows students to observe changes that happen to land over short and long periods of time through pictures and cartoons. Students will complete this task working one on one with a teacher-administrator. Resources required for this task include photographs (an Abbotsford landslip showing wrecked houses and a coastline showing erosion), cartoons (Bogor and Footrot Flats), an OHP mylar sheet, a red pencil, and a pencil.
