Choral Reading

The Choral Reading performance assessment includes two tasks and will be completed twice, once as a pre-assessment and once as a post-assessment, for a unit on nonfiction reading/information book writing. In Task 1, students will choral read a book and draw and write questions they have about the details in the text. They will try to answer their questions. Students will then discuss the book and share out some of their questions and answers. In Task 2, students will write their own information book to teach the important information they have learned. The last page of their book will include a big idea or observation.

Eighth Grade Performance Assessment

The Eighth Grade Performance Assessment includes two tasks and uses a "Checkers" speech by Richard Nixon. In Task 1, students write an essay about how Nixon convinces them that men like him, who are not rich, should be able to run for office. They will also evaluate the relevance and strength of Nixon's evidence in his argument. In Task 2, students will explain the historical or symbolic meanings of a phrase in the context of the speech.

Kindergarten Common Core Assessment

The Kindergarten Common Core Assessment includes two tasks and will be completed twice, once as a pre-assessment and once as a post-assessment. In Task 1, students will listen to a story read aloud and think about the information they learned. They will then use writing and drawing to help them remember the important details. In Task 2, students will create an information book using what they learned from the reading.

This task includes Amazing Plants page 1, 2, 3, Colorful Plants, and a rubric.

The Kindergarten Standards 4 and 8 Assessment includes two tasks and uses We Need Water by Helen Frost. In Task 1, students will listen to the story read aloud and then discuss what they learned. They will then ask and answer questions about an unknown word. In Task 2, students will write an information book that teaches the reasons the author gives for why we need water.

Second Grade Standards 5 and 8 Assessment

The Second Grade Standards 5 and 8 Assessment includes three tasks using Save Water by Kay Barnham. In Task 1, students will use text features to locate information about saving water. In Task 2, students will use text features to locate information about the term "population". In Task 3, students will read a section of the story independently. They will then determine and explain in writing how the reasons the author makes on certain pages supports his main point.

Seventh Grade Standards 5 and 8

The Seventh Grade Standards 5 and 8 includes two tasks and use King George III. In Task 1, students will write an explanatory essay in which they analyze how the author has structured a specific passage and the effect of that structure on the reader. In Task 2, students will explaining the meaning of a phrase in context of the reading and explain how it connects to the central ideas of the passage.

Sixth Grade Common Core Assessment

The Sixth Grade Common Core Assessment includes three tasks. In Task 1, students will watch a short video clip twice and fill out the outline in their booklet. They will then read an article and gather information for their essay. In Task 2, students will read another article and gather information for their essay. In Task 3, students will write an essay, using the information they gathered in Tasks 1 and 2, to write a convincing argument.

This task includes a rubric and an alternate text with a task.

The Sixth Grade Standards 4 and 8 includes two tasks and uses Julius Caesar Chapter X In Task 1, students will write an essay in which they answer a question about how the author convinces the readers that Caesar was both ruthless and inspired loyalty. In Task 2, students will explain the meaning of words in context of the reading and explain how it relates to the authors message.
