8th Grade U.S. History Mid-Year History Writing Task

In the 8th Grade U.S. History Mid-Year History Writing Task students will respond to the question "which would have been better for the Cherokee in 1836: To accept new tribal lands and more west, or to resist moving to new tribal lands?". They will write an essay using primary and secondary sources as evidence to support their argument. This task includes resources to help students write their introduction, understand the timeline of events, evaluate sources and evidence, plan their essay, develop their claim, and an argumentative writing checklist.

8th Grade U.S. History Nat Turner's Revolt Assessment

In the 8th Grade U.S. History Nat Turner's Revolt Assessment from 2007-2008, students will respond to the question, " Was Nat Turner a Hero? Was Nat Turner’s Revolt a Success?". They will write an essay using primary sources as evidence. This task includes context, sources, and primary source analysis activities.

Greek Democracy Assessment

In the Greek Democracy Assessment from 2007-1008, students will address the question "how democratic was Ancient Athens?". They will write a speech about the Athenian system of government, in which they describe how democratic it was and explain who gets to participate and how they participated. This task includes activities, sources and comprehension questions, and a summary worksheet.

King Tut and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs Assessment

In the King Tut and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs Assessment from 2009-2010, students will respond the questions "Why was the discovery of his tomb so important?What do the objects in his tomb tell us about Ancient Egypt?" They will chose three objects and then write an essay that explains why their chosen objects best represent the claim made about Daily Life, Burial Practices and Beliefs, Power and Politics, or Geography and Trade.This task includes resources to help students take notes during powerpoint presentations, write their thesis, evaluate their evidence evidence, and outline their essay.
