Fence

The Fence task allows students to demonstrate their ability to use algebraic reasoning to solve a problem through a fence making activity. Students will complete this task working stations. The resources required for this task are sixteen fence sticks.

This task is a part of the Number & Algebra task series from 2005. This task is classified as a trend task by NEMP. Trend tasks are used to examine trends in student performance: whether they have improved, stayed constant or declined over the four-year period since the previous assessments.

Fishing Competition (Y4)

The Fishing Competition (Y4) task allows students to demonstrate their ability to compare weights. Students will be shown fish on scales and will need to read the weight on the scales to determine the three heaviest fish.. Students will complete this task working in stations. The resources required for this task are six pictures of fish on weighing scales.

Floor Tiles

The Floor Tiles task allows students to demonstrate their ability to calculate and estimate areas. Students will be shown a tile and asked how many would be need to cover the area of various rooms.  Students will complete this task working in stations. The resources required for this task are a square tile, a ruler, and a pencil.

Folded Box

In the Folded Box task, students will watch a short instructional video and then create a box out of paper.  Students will complete this task in stations. The resources required for this task are scissors, a sheet of blue paper marked in squares, and an instructional video.
